Before applying for this test you must possess a Provisional UK or NI Driving Licence, and ideally you will have taken some driving lessons.

The quickest way for candidates to make theory test appointments is by calling the DSA's national number (0870 01 01 372) and paying by credit or debit card.

Application forms are also accepted by post with cheque or postal order payment. Application forms are available from theory test centres, practical test centres, Approved Driving Instructors or on request from the national number.

When you arrive at the Theory Test Centre you must produce:

  1. Your Provisional Driving Licence
  2. Photographic evidence of your identity
  3. Your Test Appointment Letter or Booking Reference Number

Without them you will not be allowed to take the Test and you will lose your fee.

The Syllabus

You will have to answer 50 questions (passmark 43)on the following topics:

HAZARD AWARENESS , VULNERABLE ROAD USERS , OTHER TYPES OF VEHICLE
VEHICLE HANDLING , MOTORWAY RULES , RULES OF THE ROAD
ROAD AND TRAFFIC SIGNS ,DOCUMENTS ,ACCIDENTS , VEHICLE LOADING
